Holiday Gift Guide | Shops Of Mission Viejo

The holiday season is here and like every year I head over to The Shops Of Mission Viejo to see what the top brands have to offer for the holidays.

Today’s fashion is heavily influenced by streetwear and bringing back classic brands that have been in the market for years.

Banana Republic

I started my list at the Banana Republic because this brand has always been one of my favorites when it comes to holidays and fall/winter season. They keep their style classic and at some great price point especially if you include the great sales they run consistently.

The look I put together is super versatile as you can use all the top pieces together or separate with each other.

The vest is one of my favorite pieces especially here in Southern California for a couple of reasons: 1. Versatile 2. Not bulky 3. Looks Great

Here are all the items with the links to go check them out!

John Varvatos | Top pics for today’s cyber Monday (extended)

There is no better time to “steal” some goodies for ourselves during this holiday season. I had put together a quick “TOP PICKS” from John Varvatos cyber sale with an extra 40% off already reduced items! Enjoy.

The black quilted jacket

Let’s check it out.

This jacket is a must in anyone’s wardrobe, it’s timeless. You can dress it up with a button up shirt or down with a simple basic tee. (see below)

It’s super comfortable and for this price is a definitely must-have.

The winter pants

Let’s check it out!

When it comes down to pants let’s think outside the jeans especially for the winter season. Try warmer fabrics with dark colors and you will be on your way to look your best.

The trainers

By the way, they make you look 3 inches taller 🙂

Let’s check them out!

These trainers are so cool, at first glance I didn’t know what to think of them. But as soon as I tried them on they felt right at home. Great build quality and they add an extra 3 inches IMO, so why not!

The basic tee

Let’s check it out!

Nothing to be said about a basic white tee, because you know it’s time to get a new one. 😉

The Blind Rabbit | A perfect local getaway for that special night

The moment I stepped inside that secret door every sense in my body was firing at one hundred percent. The low light atmosphere, the smell from the bar, the sound of low voices with a live piano playing on the background got my attention right away. I had no expectation of where I was going, Stacie, my wife had told me about this place where Chef Peter Lai was now the Executive Chef and we were overdue to pay him a visit.

This night was the perfect excuse to get out and enjoy ourselves as we celebrated our 6th wedding anniversary. The Blind Rabbit became our first choice and we are so glad we went there. This place is no joke out of a movie, its so surreal to be there inside the meatpacking district in Anaheim, Ca. Outside the door, there are hundreds of people enjoying themselves and its loud and super active. As soon as you find the Blind Rabbit’s secret door and walk it you submerge yourself into a different world.

The hostess took us to our intimate table for 2, and we were pleasantly surprised with a beautiful card from the restaurant due to our anniversary. Bravo!  We sat down and took it all in. We both looked at each other and smiled, we knew this would be a special night.

The first two drinks arrived in these beautiful tiny little cups, the attention to detail in every craft cocktail was apparent from the get-go. As we cheered and took our first sips we both nodded and our eyes got big showing how much we enjoyed the taste. I had no clue what I was drinking but I liked it. I was ready for more…

craft cocktails, speakeasy,
The Blind Rabbit offers an extensive craft cocktail list to choose from.

Throughout the night we tasted many different drinks and all of them were at the highest standard in my opinion. We enjoyed a full meal including some appetizers like the carpaccio which by the way was amazing! Followed by a beautifully cooked steak with a side of mac and cheese topped with duck confit. Perfect!

Later, Chef Peter came by to check up on us and share some of his journey at The Blind Rabbit. There is no surprise why he is so happy doing what he does best. This restaurant is as special as he is, a perfect pairing. He has the freedom to create delicious dishes and run his imagination wild.

The next time you are looking for a special place for an intimate dinner you definitely have to check out The Blind Rabbit.

Family Time: DTSA // 4th Street Market

Finding places to spend a Sunday with the family in Orange County can get boring pretty fast, but not this week, we headed to DTSA and we had a blast. We decided to visit 4th Street Market to enjoy the variety of food choices available there and also to try and sneak a quick photo session.

dtsa, market, downtown4th Street Market

Located in the heart of Downtown Santa Ana is a place with super amazing food options for you to choose from. The bar available there comes super handy specially on Sundays when you want to get a peek at the football games going on. But if you are more into coffee that day well Portola Coffee will sure be able to accommodate for that. When it comes down to food options and quality this is a top place to visit in OC.

The Meal

The 4th street market is not tailored for kids primarily but it still offers a variety of food choices for them to enjoy. The dessert options are plenty and would satisfy most, we decided to try to fruit bar dipped in white chocolate with area and rainbow sprinkles, yum!!!

On Point: The SEIKO TURTLE SRP-775

I never knew I would be able to enjoy such an affordable watch.  I was under the impression that if the watch was “expensive” I would enjoy it. The truth is that the Seiko Turtle SRP 775 has become my most versatile watch today. I will share with you 4 reasons why I decided to get myself one and why I believe it is a great watch to own.

seiko, seiko turtle

The Brand

You have heard about SEIKO in some way or another. It is a Japanese company that have been making watches in 1924. They introduced the fist quartz watch the Astron back in 1969 and today they are still producing great quality watches at affordable price points.

The Model: Seiko Turtle – SRP 775 Two Tone

After researching the different models I decided on the Seiko Turtle SRP 775 watch. What sold me on this specific model was the new two tone combination. I have always liked the two tone watches made by Rolex so this was a great way to have that combination in an every day watch.

The 4 Reasons Why To Buy This Watch

Seiko

Price vs Quality

First of all the number one reason is the price point compared to the quality and craftsmanship of the watch. You get an in-house automatic movement unlike most “luxury”brands that come with generic Swiss made movements and you are paying for a brand not for the actual movement. Not smart to pay just for a label without doing the research in what you are really buying.

Peace Of Mind

Owning an expensive watch is not the best option when you have a lifestyle where you are on the go in and out of gyms, tennis courts, cycling, etc. This watch is a timepiece that I can wear everyday with the peace of mind of being almost indestructible. At the same time it is a quality watch and not a cheep watch just to wear everyday. With options like this I wouldn’t recommend getting an “every day watch” that is cheap just to bang it around, especially when you can buy quality at a reasonable price point. (retail $525.00)

Interested in saving some money check it out at Jomashop for big savings on your Seiko Turtle.

Collectability

The Seiko Turtle will always stand up next to luxury and boutique brands. You can wear this watch proudly especially if you know about the brand and understand it. This is  a great timepiece to own, having this watch as part of a collection means that you have done at least the most minimum research regarding watches and entry level options at an affordable price.

Versatility

Finally, one of the biggest reasons I decided on this watch was that I can use it everyday and everywhere I go. It not only looks great, but it is super comfortable due to the rubber strap. Below are some of the different places I have taken my new Seiko Turtle watch, enjoy!

Wine Tasting: Look Your Best With 4 Staple Items

There is no fun of drinking wine with board shorts and sandals… specially in Mexico. Let’s save yourself the embarrassment of staying outside the vineyard watching everyone else enjoy their wine in their fancy outfits. Therefore below I will share with you 4 staple items to have you looking your best in your next wine tasting voyage.

Let’s get started

The Hat

Starting from the top and probably the most iconic and must have item: The Hat. People can say that you want to make sure you cover yourself form the sun and whatever, but let me be honest… it just looks really cool. You can get yourself a decent hat down in Mexico while you are down there and it will run you around $15-$20 dlls. Problem solved, let’s move on to the shirt and vest.

The Shirt

Go ahead and show your personality with your shirt. This is the item that you can play around with colors and patterns. I chose this time a small floral pattern with tones of red and blue form Banana Republic (similar)

The Vest

In addition the vest In Mexico is one of the most iconic items that every body owns. Therefore I’m wearing one of my favorite items go wine tasting from Salvatore Ferragamo… let’s say I look at this item as an “investment” piece. I love the way it looks and how versatile it is.

The Jeans

Finally the jeans are by Paige and I love how comfortable they are… yes they are white but because they are jeans they actually wash really well and stains do come out relatively easily.

IMPORTANT TIP: My recommendation is to wear a comfortable pair of shoes that are older and that you can “trash” literally as the terrain is rough on the shoes. Trust me on this one. Leather shoes are good to go wine tasting as they can be cleaned from the dust and dirt. Be ready to send them to your shoe guy as soon as you come go back home.

Weekend Getaway: south of the border into Baja

The ability to drive south from Orange County and have a quick baja weekend getaway is priceless. It was no different a couple of weeks ago when I decided to get away for a couple of days to unwind and recharge. The daily routine finally got to me and it was time to make a move and let the body and mind reboot.

The decision was to head south into the Baja California Peninsula in look for peace and quiet and a little adventure.

El Dorado Ranch  private beach in San Felipe, BC. Mexico.

It was time to pack, the plan was to be able to play golf, cycle and relax so what this meant was heavy packing… golf clubs, bike, and a bag. I packed light and the essentials to survive the weekend. I met with Javier, my business partner at G Tennis Factory, in San Diego early Thursday morning and we started our drive across the border and into Baja.

Our “TJ car” chilling in the middle of Baja with our bikes ready to go.

Our first stop was at the world know seafood place in Ensenada “La Guerrerense” which is known for their amazing street side tostadas. Delicious!

We started to drive and left the city in no time we were in the middle of a mountain pass with no one or nothing around us… the trip truly began at this point. We continue to drive into de desert for almost another 90 miles until we ran into the first military check point. After a few questions we were back on our way to San Felipe.

On the road towards San Felipe, BC. Mexico.

Our next stop came at a tiny gas station that look like it came out of a movie… but we got gas that was all that mattered. Had some time for a few selfies while I waited.

We finally arrived at San Felipe and we headed to a private beach at El Dorado Ranch which was part of our hotel so we had access to it. We were the only ones so it was really private… we sat down on the beach and relaxed for a while taking it all in.

We decided to stay there to have dinner and headed to our hotel after to get a good night sleep to be ready for our first bike ride the next morning.

Later that day we headed further south in search of a tiny little spot called “Alfonsinas.” This small beach was located like 90 more miles south of San Felipe and further into Baja. It was an amazing place to go relax and spend some time to recharge and get away. There was no internet, so had to forget about my phone for a couple of days… not to bad.

The trip was such an amazing experience that we plan on returning with the family. It was amazing to see how convenient it is to drive for a couple of hours and feel that you are in a different planet. Take time to find ways to recharge your body and mind. Do not be afraid to do things a little bit differently and take some time to live a little outside the routine. The weekend getaway is a perfect solution for this, give it a try! #domore

I had some time to do a small photo shoot while waiting for Javier to check us out of the hotel… hope you enjoy!
